Stakeholder Voice
Our aim is that students and parents feel confident to communicate with the school about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in a variety of formal and informal ways and that students have safe places to communicate their concerns, celebrate culture and ask difficult questions.
We encourage students to use their voices in order to make a positive difference and be active change-makers in our school and throughout our journey, we have always been keen to understand the lived experiences of our community. In the autumn term of 2019 we undertook an in-depth piece of student voice with our students of colour, which saw students ask for an improved understanding of the language of race, more opportunities to celebrate culture and a more consistent approach to challenging discriminatory behaviour. This was shared with staff in whole-school training in February 2020.
Since then we have regularly checked back in with students, completing 1:1 student voice with our students of colour in 2021-22, a voluntary survey for students identifying as LGBTQ+ and, in 2023, a piece of student voice completed by the whole-school, which explored feelings of safety, using a nationally benchmarked survey. Each of these contributions have been read, discussed and have had a huge impact on the direction we have taken.
We look forward to building on this with plans to involve more parental voice. In the meantime, if you are interested in contributing further to the school’s work, then please email the admin mailbox on dow-admin@cset.co.uk
